After Prodigies Music Level 1: What's Next for Your Kid?
Your kid finished Level 1? Here's what's waiting for them inside Prodigies Music. The short answer: you don't have to upgrade, buy anything new, or switch programs. Level 2 and a whole catalog of advanced content are already included in your Prodigies Music membership.
Level 2 Is Already Included
Level 2 (formerly called Expansions) is part of your Prodigies Music membership at no extra cost. Once your child is comfortable with Level 1, they can move right into more advanced lessons inside the same app, same login, same colors, same Mr. Rob.
No upgrade. No new purchase. Just keep going.
What's in Level 2?
Level 2 builds on the foundation Level 1 laid down. Kids who've mastered playing simple songs with the C Major Deskbells, recognizing solfege, and reading the staff are ready to:
Tackle longer, more complex songs.
Explore sharps and flats with the chromatic bells.
Read more advanced rhythm patterns (sixteenth notes, dotted rhythms, syncopation).
Practice ear training and pattern recognition.
Begin understanding key signatures and intervals.
Recorder, Ukulele, and Piano
Once Level 1 feels easy, this is a great time to add an instrument. The membership includes three full instrumental programs:
Recorder Prodigies. A classic next step. Builds on solfege and finger coordination.
Ukulele Prodigies. Great for ages 7+. Chords, strumming, and simple songs.
Piano Prodigies. A natural progression for kids who love the colors and want to play "the big instrument".
All three are taught in the same Chroma-Notes color system your kid already knows, so the transition feels seamless.
Music Theory for Older Kids
Older kids (typically 9-12) often want to know why music works the way it does. Inside Prodigies Music you'll find content on:
Major and minor scales
Building chords
Reading the grand staff
Composition basics
Music history and listening lessons
This is where Prodigies starts to feel less like "fun screen time" and more like a real musicianship course.
When Kids Outgrow Prodigies
Honest moment: kids who are 12 and up, especially those who've been with us for years, may eventually outgrow Prodigies. That's a good thing. It means they're ready for the next chapter, which usually looks like:
Private lessons on piano, guitar, voice, or whatever they fell in love with through Prodigies.
School music programs like band, choir, orchestra, or a school musical.
Community music programs like youth choirs and rock bands.
If your kid is graduating out of Prodigies, that's the goal. Send us their first recital video. We love that stuff.
